Drywall generally comes in a few basic types. Regular panels have long edge tapered on the face side to form a shallow recess to accommodate joint reinforcement. These are made in three thicknesses.

In addition to the three main types, there are also these specialty types of gypsum panels.

Firecode panels are made with a firecode core which as the advantages of regular panels, but also has additional fire resistance in the form of a specially formulated core.

Flexible gypsum panels that are designed for curved partitions and are more flexible than standard panels of the same thickness.

Foil-backed panels that are made by laminating special kraft-backed aluminum to the back surface of regular or firecode panels. These are made for colder climates as they form a vapor retarder for walls and ceilings when applied to the interior side of an exterior wall in a single layer application.

Moisture & Mold Resistant. While all panels are meant to be mold resistant, these panels have improved moisture and mold resistance by treating the core and surface.
