Open-cell foam is not vapor proof. When open cell foam is installed in cold areas the surface needs to be covered with some kind of vapor retardant such as a vapor retardant paint. Open cell foam is good for the environment because some of the low-density foams are made from bio-based products such as soybean oils as opposed to petrochemicals as well as using water or carbon dioxide as the blowing agent.

Here at Energy Smart Inc. we use SEALECTION® 500 which is spray foam when applied expands to around one hundred and twenty times its original size to fill everything providing great energy efficiency and better air quality inside. This spray foam reduces dust and noise in the air making it great to have for anyone who has allergies. It is great for Cathedral Ceilings, Conditioned attics, Wall Cavities, and Wood and/or Steel Construction.

Closed cell foam is also known as Two-pound foam. This spray foam is dense foam and has a density of about two pounds per cubic foot. Energy Smart Inc. uses HEATLOK SOY® foam because it is recycled plastic waste that is turned into a Rigid Spray Polyurethane Foam, and because it is made from recycled plastic it is very ecological.

Being made from recycled plastic we can use the world’s nonrenewable resources more efficiently. This type of closed cell foam can reduce energy consumption and excess waste in buildings by up to 50%. It is great in places where the relative humidity level is higher than 55%. The perfect high-humidity choice for: Basement Walls, Between Radiant-Heated Floors, Crawl Spaces, Exterior Bathroom Walls, Foundation Exteriors, Swimming Pools, Wine Cellars.

Spray foam roofing has the highest thermal resistance value of all the other traditional roof insulations, this decreases energy usage. Spray foam roofing is a rigid, closed cell plastic that is created by mixing two liquid components; it reacts in seconds and can have traffic on it in a few minutes. This foam creates a waterproof blanket that covers the entire roof.

Here at Energy Smart Inc. we use closed-cell polyurethane designed to provide a high performance, light weight roofing system for use on many different types and styles of roofs. Our spray foam sticks to the rook and is seamless which gets rid of the mechanical fasteners which is the leading cause of roof leaks. Spray foam roofing can be applied to vertical surfaces as well making a seamless coverage.

Just about all the walls in a house have some kind of obstruction. Electrical boxes, pipes and wiring along with framing that isn’t standard. Having all the obstructions in the walls makes it hard to fit fiberglass batt into them. Energy Smart offers a spray-on insulation system which can get around all the wires, pipes and all the other obstructions as well as conforming to all different shapes and sizes of a wall.

Spray-on Fiberglass Insulation is sprayed with 25% moisture content but the fiberglass dries quickly. The inorganic powered adhesive is activated by water and bonds the fibers into a blanket inside of the wall around all the obstructions. This closes all the gaps and voids which reduces heat loss. The resulting reduction of air movement in the walls reduces the water vapor in the wall.

Block fill insulation is insulation that is sprayed on the inside of concrete blocks. Block fill is a “dry” resin type of insulation. It seals against air infiltration by filling the center of the concrete blocks with foam. It has a Class 1/Class A fire rating that meets or surpasses all requirements of the current building standards.

There are three types of concrete block insulation:

Polystyrene is a colorless, transparent thermoplastic

Polyisocyanurate is a heat setting type of plastic, closed cell foam that contains a low-conductive gas in its cells

Polyurethane is a closed-cell foam insulation material that contains a low-conductivity gas

The insulation is put in place by injecting and or pouring liquid foam into the center of the blocks.

Installing block fill foam insulation creates Excellent Thermal and Acoustic Insulative Properties. It is pre expanded so when it is pumped into the blocks it will not expand and crack the blocks. The pressure of the added foam pushes the foam in to every crack which makes a better seal to prevent air leakage and sound transmission. It is safe and inert and Environmentally Green it helps prevent mold mildew and bacteria.

Each or the four major type of cellulose are used for different reasons in different parts of a building.

Dry cellulose is used in retrofitting old homes by blowing the cellulose into holes drilled into the tops of the walls.

Stabilized cellulose is used most often in attic/roof insulation

Low dust cellulose has a small percentage of oil or similar dust dampener added. This may also be appropriate to homes where people are sensitive to newsprint or paper dust

Spray-applied cellulose is used for applying cellulose to new wall construction.

Fiberglass insulation was trademarked in 1938 and has been the standard and most commonly used insulation since. But with energy bills increasing the standard fiberglass insulation is costing homeowners hundreds of dollars. That’s where spray foam insulation comes in.

Spray foam insulation has been around for years in industrial and commercial buildings.

Spray foam insulation will save homeowners money on their heating and cooling bills giving them more money to spend on other things.

Spray foam insulation reduces noise and allergens in the home as well as keeping outside moisture outside.

Spray foam also seals cracks, gaps, and crevices in the roof and walls unlike traditional insulation.
