Fiberglass Batts
Rolls and batts – or blankets – are flexible products made from mineral fibers, such as fiberglass and rock wool. If you have a property that needs insulation, Energy Smart Inc. offers the highest R-value Batt available on the market. The batt is R-49 which is 15” thick. It only requires an easy one-step application, which makes it labor saving.
Using this thicker batt helps meet the new energy codes, and eliminates the need to install multiple thickness of batts or additional loose fill installation to meet higher R-value specifications.
Understanding R-Value:
Insulation is specified by its thermal resistance or R-value. “R” means resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. The amount of insulation you need depends mainly on climate, type of heating (gas, oil, electricity) you use, and the area of the house you plan to insulate.
The U.S. Dept. of Energy has established minimum recommended insulation R-values for six distinct parts of the country, or insulation zones.
Insulation Tips
- Consider factors such as your climate, building design, and budget when selecting insulation R-values for your home.
- Use higher density insulation on exterior walls and in cathedral ceilings.
- Ventilation helps with moisture control and reducing summer cooling bills. Attic vents can be installed along the entire ceiling cavity to help ensure proper airflow from the soffit to the attic to make a home more comfortable and energy efficient. Do not ventilate your attic if you have insulation on the underside of the roof. Energy Smart Inc. is a qualified contractor and can help determine what type of insulation is best for your needs.
- Recessed light fixtures can be a major source of heat loss, but you need to be careful how close you place insulation next to a fixture unless it is marked IC—designed for direct insulation contact. Energy Smart Inc can help you with your local building codes for recommendations.
- One of the most cost-effective ways to make your home more comfortable year-round is to add insulation to your attic.
